Putin Approves Commission on Framework Agreement
Russian President Vladimir Putin approved on June 8 a new 21-member governmental commission, which will work over preparation of the comprehensive framework agreement between Russia and Georgia, the Russian President”s official web site reports.
According to the decree of the Russian President, Igor Savolsky, the Russian Foreign Ministry”s special envoy, will chair the commission, while Lev Mironov, the Russian Foreign Ministry”s another special envoy will serve as executive secretary.
Before these new appointments the governmental commission was chaired by Boris Pastukhov, former chairman of the Russian Parliament”s committee for CIS affairs.
The Georgian and Russian sides fail to agree over the Russian proposal to include in the framework agreement a legally binding refusal by Georgia to station military bases of third countries on its soil. Tbilisi vows that there will be no military base of the third country’s in Georgia, however refuses to include this provision in the agreement.
