Borderguard Officer Arrested on Abuse Charges

Alexander Macharashvili, an officer in the Georgian border unit in the Lagodekhi district of eastern Georgia, was arrested on June 9 on charges of abusing soldiers in his military unit.

Several days ago four servicemen deserted the Lagodekhi military unit citing physical and verbal abuse. These charges were corraborated by Deputy Ombudsman Bacho Akhalaia.
