Tycoon-Owned News Agency Closed Down
Georgian news agency Interpress, a part of the media holding owned by influential tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili, has been closed down, the agency?s statement issued on June 2 reads.
No reasons behind this decision are reported, but apparently closure was triggered by Patarkatsishvili?s decision to cease financing of the news agency.
Interpress news agency was founded in 2001 and from 2002 it became the part of Patarkatsishvili?s media holding, which also unites Imedi television and radio stations.
The daily Mtavari Gazeti (the Main Newspaper) was also the part of this holding but it was also closed couple of years ago.
