Opposition Wants Group of MPs to Probe into Zhvania’s Death
Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze deemed opposition MPs request, to set up a special parliamentary investigative commission to probe into the death of late Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania, unnecessary citing the fact that the official investigation of the case is still underway.
A similar request made by the opposition parliamentarians in February was also turned down by the parliamentary majority.
Nino Burjanadze also refused to convene Interior Minister and Prosecutor General to brief the parliamentarians over the investigation, citing that it will be inappropriate to question officials before the end of the investigation.
This recent request by the opposition parliamentarians follows the journalistic investigation broadcasted by the Tbilisi-based 202 television station, which focuses on those facts, which contradict an official version of Zhvania’s death, which says that late PM died of carbon-monoxide poisoning caused by the faulty gas heating device.
Zurab Zhvania’s family members – his brother and widow, announced recently that they are now sure that late Prime Minister was killed.
