Azeri, Turkish, Georgian Leaders Sign Railway Accord

Presidents of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey signed a joint declaration on May 25 in Baku over construction of a 160-km long railway between Turkish eastern city of Kars and Georgian southern city of Akhalkalaki, which will also enable Azerbaijan to link its railway with Turkey.

The declaration was signed in Azeri capital on the sideline of an official ceremony of launching pumping of oil through Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

According to the Georgian Railway Department, a joint Azerbaijani-Georgian-Turkish venture will be set up to implement this railway project, which, according to preliminary calculations, will cost about USD 400 million.
