Zourabichvili: Talks on Bases Moving Towards Conclusion
Georgian Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili said late on May 23 that talks between Georgia and Russia ?are moving towards a conclusion, at least I hope so.?
Experts from the Georgian and Russian Foreign Ministries will continue talks in Tbilisi on May 24. Deputy Foreign Minister Merab Antadze, Georgia?s chief negotiator, said on Monday that ?serious progress? has been made in the negotiations.
Salome Zourabichvili was speaking with reporters late on May 23 after meeting with leading parliamentarians behind closed doors. Zourabichvili informed the lawmakers about this negotiation process with the Russian side.
?I think it was a very interesting meeting, because the parliamentarians had their comments and remarks and it was useful,? the Foreign Minister said.
Leading parliamentarian from the ruling National Movement party Giga Bokeria told reporters that the MPs will be ?satisfied only after the bases are pulled out.?
?The Foreign Ministry has our full political support over this issue,? he added.
No one made a comment whether the issue of recent disagreements between the Foreign Minister and some of the lawmakers was discussed during the meeting or not.
