Georgian Officials to Discuss IPAP at NATO HQ

The Georgian Foreign Minister, Defense Minister and State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration Issues will pay an official visit to Brussels on May 18-19 to participate in a session of the North Atlantic Council, in the so-called ’26 + 1 format’ at NATO Headquarters.

The members of this Georgian delegation will also hold talks with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

According to the Georgian Defense Ministry, the implementation of Georgia? Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), which establishes specific defense and political reform goals for Georgia, will be discussed during the talks.

During a visit to Georgia in March, a team of experts from NATO assessed the implementation of Georgia?s IPAP with NATO. The result of this visit was a draft assessment document that was  developed and submitted to NATO member states and Georgia.

The North Atlantic Council, which is the decision-making body of NATO, approved Georgia?s IPAP last October.
