Georgian WWII Veterans Mark Day of Victory

Georgian veterans of World War II gathered on May 9 at the memorial of the Unknown Soldier in Tbilisi to mark Victory Day.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said while addressing the veterans that it is not well known throughout the world that the small nation of Georgia ?lost 300,000 people in this war.?

?There are few nations in the world which sacrificed more than the Georgians did? I want to thank your generation for this,? Saakashvili said.

In his address to the veterans Saakashvili also spoke about Georgia?s territorial problems and vowed to restore the country?s territorial integrity.

?I am sure our generation will do this. I promise to do this,? he stated.
