UN Envoy Meets Abkhaz Leadership

UN Secretary General?s Special Representatives to Georgia Heidi Tagliavini met with President of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh and Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba in the unrecognized republic?s capital Sokhumi on May 6, Abkhaz news agency Apsnypress reported.

According to the Abkhaz leader?s press office, Heidi Tagliavini spoke about the possiblity of a meeting that would take place in Berlin between the conflicting sides, with UN facilitation, to discuss joint economic projects in the region.

Apsnypress also reported that Heidi Tagliavini discussed an upcoming meeting over security issues, which will take place in the Gali district of Abkhazia on May 11 with the participation of Georgian and Abkhaz sides, as well as representatives of the Russian peacekeepers and UN observers in the conflict zone with Abkhaz Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba.
