Georgia Accepts Privatization Bids for Three Major Enterprises

On May 3 the Georgian Ministry of Economy completed its accepting of privatization bids for the Azot chemical factory – in the town of Rustavi, near Tbilisi – the Electric Locomotive Repair Plant in Tbilisi and the oil infrastructure in Batumi, Adjara Autonomous Republic.


The deadline for accepting privatization bids for the Rustavi Metallurgical Plant was prolonged until June 2.


According to the Ministry of Economy, seven companies are bidding for Azot chemical factory, including two Russian companies, Itera and Seled, Kazakh Dala-Trans, three Georgian companies and the British-based Frank Oil. This latter company is also bidding for the oil processing infrastructure in Batumi.


A total of 18 companies submitted privatization bids for the oil terminal, storage and oil processing plant in Batumi, which are open for bidding as a single item. The multinational Vitol Group is among those bidders. The list also includes four Georgian and three Turkish companies, as well as Russian and Kazakh companies.


Four companies are bidding for the privatization of the Electric Locomotive Repair Plant in Tbilisi, including two Georgian companies, as well as a Russian and Belize-based company.
