British Instructors Train Georgian Servicemen in Command Skills

The assistance programme has an emphasis on training the servicemen in peace support operations and is interlinked with the US-funded new military assistance program for the Georgian troops – Sustainment and Stability Operations Program (SSOP).
An assistant to British military attaché to Georgia Robert Hamling said Georgian officers, which will gain skills in command and leadership after graduating this training course carried out by the British military instructors from the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) will move then to the 21st battalion which is currently trained by the U.S. military instructors in frames of SSOP.
“This [training course] is an integral part of the US-funded military programme,” Robert Hamling told Civil Georgia on May 4.
Another team of the British military instructors is located with the U.S. military instructors at Krtsanisi training camp. Their task is to work with the U.S. trainers for three weeks assisting them develop the syllabus in frames of SSOP.
This training course is part of the UK’s continued programme of military assistance, which is arranged and coordinated by the UK’s defense attaché to Georgia. 46 Georgian servicemen have already graduated last April UK-funded five-week long peace support operations training course, which was also conducted by the BMATT.
