Government to Cut Number of Licenses
Georgian State Minister for Economic Reforms Kakha Bendukidze told reporters on May 2 that the government will submit a draft law, envisaging the simplification of the process for issuing licenses and permits for launching a business, to the Parliament for consideration this week.
He said that according to the proposal, the number of licenses will be reduced from the current 909 to 150 and the new legislative initiative will impose a so called “one stop” principle, which means that individuals willing to register their business will no longer have to apply for licenses at several different governmental agencies and will be able to do it at a single agency.
Bendukidze also said that the governmental agency will have to respond to a businessman”s appeal for a license within one month. If there is no response during this period, an entrepreneur has the right to launch its business without waiting for an official answer, the State Minister added.
