Economy Minister Visits Turkey

Georgian Economy Minister Lexo Alexishvili left for Turkey on April 28 to participate in an international conference on Transportation in the Caspian and Black Sea Region. Delegates from Iran, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will also attend the conference.

The Economy Ministry reported on April 28 that the issue of construction of a railway link between the eastern Turkish city of Kars and the southern Georgian town of Akhalkalaki will be discussed at the conference as well.

A protocol on construction of this railway link was signed by the Georgian, Azerbaijani and Turkish sides in Baku on April 6. This railway link will also enable Azerbaijan to gain access to its strategic partner, Turkey, via Georgia. According to preliminary calculations, the project will cost USD 400 million.
