Putin Says Democracy not for Export
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on April 27 that democracy should not become ?a subject of export from one country to another,? RIA Novosti news agency reported.
The Russian President was speaking at a news conference after holding talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Egypt.
?As soon as it becomes a subject of export, it [democracy] turns into a means of achieving an advantage for one country over another,? Vladimir Putin said.
He stressed that, currently, democracy represents the most effective form of state arrangement, but added that ?democratic institutions can not be planted somewhere without taking into consideration the interests and history of a state.?
