Floods, Landslides Strike Western Georgia
A number of districts in western Georgia are suffering from one of the worst flood seasons in recent years, due to heavy rains on April 25.
No casualties have been reported, but the floods have damaged houses, roads and bridges in Racha-Lechkhumi, the Kvemo Svaneti regions, as well as in Tskaltubo, Khoni, Tsageri, Lentekhi, Oni and several districts of Kutaisi. 30 families were evacuated from the Ambrolauri district. Landslides have also been reported in several districts.
Chief of Georgian President?s Administration Gigi Ugulava said at a news conference on April 25 that the authorities has thus far failed to launch any relief activities in the region because of weather conditions.
