Moldovan Foreign Minister Speaks of GUAM

In an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) Foreign Minister of Moldova Andrei Stratan said that interest towards the GUAM ? Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova – is increasing in the region.

?Other countries from the region, politicians from these countries, manifest at present a growing interest for this organization. These accounts [sic] for the fact that the presidents of Romania, Lithuania, and Poland, along with the U.S. State Department’s representative for the region, Steven Mann, have agreed to participate in the summit [of GUAM member states? leaders] in Chisinau [on April 22],? Andrei Stratan said.

He said that after taking over chairmanship of the GUAM from Georgia at the summit on April 22, ?Moldova will have the opportunity to propose a new program, a new vision regarding powerful measures to strengthen regional security; diverse economic projects, including electricity and energy; and combating the phenomena that negatively influence the prosperous development of member states.?
