Government Moves to Cut Red Tape in Licensing
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said, while addressing the government”s session on April 13, that the government-proposed new draft law, which envisages simplification of issuing licenses and permits for launching a business is “a revolutionary step” towards cutting red tape.
“We need more revolutionary measures against bureaucratism. We need to establish a bureaucratic system which will not create problems for the population … If before the revolution bureaucracy was establishing rules for the people, now the people will establish these rules [for the bureaucracy],” Saakashvili said.
Officials say that this new legislative initiative will impose a so called “one stop” principle, which means that individuals willing to register their business will no longer have to apply for licenses at several different governmental agencies and will be able to do it at a single agency.
