Defense Minister Denies Split in Government

In the interview with the Imedi television on April 5 Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili denied any disagreements with Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili.

?I can swear that there is no disagreement. I will never create any circumstances that will trigger confrontation,? Irakli Okruashvili said.

Recently the Georgian newspapers speculated over the split between the Defense and Interior Ministers.

Vano Merabishvili was even forced to argue in public that Irakli Okruashvili is his friend and ?there is no disagreement? between them.

According to the newspaper speculations, disagreement within the government was revealed after the Gori incident when some top-level police officials linked with Okruashvili were arrested for alleged links with smuggling.
