OSCE Chairman-in-Office, State Minister Discussed S.Ossetia Peace Plan
Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Goga Khaindrava discussed Tbilisi”s peace plane over South Ossetian conflict settlement during the meeting with visiting OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel on April 1, the Georgian State Minister”s press office reported.
Goga Khaindrava briefed Dimitrij Rupel about “the three-step peace plan” envisaging: firstly, “gradual demilitarization” of the South Ossetian conflict zone; secondly, rehabilitation projects and boosting economic cooperation; thirdly, launching of political dialogue between the conflicting side in an attempt to determine the region”s political status.
Goga Khaindrava also urged the OSCE Chairman-in-Office to help the Georgian side in holding monitoring of the Roki Tunnel, which links breakaway South Ossetia and Russia, and which is believed to be the main route of arms import from Russia into the region. Khaindrava proposed to hold a monitoring jointly with the participation of the OSCE observers as well as representatives from the joint peacekeeping forces, involving the Georgian, Ossetian and Russian troops.
