S.Ossetian Official Rejects Tbilisi’s Peace Plan
Boris Chochiev, the Special Affairs Minister of breakaway South Ossetia said on March 29 that Tbilisi’s proposals over the peaceful settlement of the conflict, envisaging a broad autonomy for South Ossetian within the Georgian state, “is unacceptable” for Tskhinvali.
“We still do not accept Tbilisi’s proposals over South Ossetia’s status as an autonomous republic within the Georgian state. South Ossetia considers itself an independent state,” RIA Novosti news agency quoted Boris Chochiev.
The official web-site of Georgian President’s administration published on March 24 a document – Initiatives of the Georgian Government with Respect to the Peaceful Resolution of the Conflict in South Ossetia – which is Tbilisi’s proposal regarding the status of breakaway South Ossetia within the Georgian state and is based on the initiatives voiced by President Saakashvili during his address to the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe on January 26.
“If Georgia really wants to settle this conflict, it should be done not through a televised address, or via the internet, it should be done through already established formats; for example, through regular sessions of the Joint Control Commission,” the South Ossetian official said, referring to the quadripartite commission which oversees the ceasefire agreement in the conflict zone.
