Georgian Official: Russia Blocks OSCE Border Training Program

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Gomiashvili told Civil Georgia on March 21 that the OSCE Permanent Council failed, on March 17, to consider proposal over a training program for Georgian border guards, ?because of Russia?s unconstructive position.?

?As a result, the OSCE is closed for us in this regard,? Giorgi Gomiashvili said adding that because of Russia?s persistently unconstructive position, the OSCE has failed to fulfill even the minimum of what was requested by Georgia ? a training program for the Georgian border guards.

After this failure to endorse the training program, the Georgian delegation, at the OSCE Permanent Council, requested that the EU consider all possible options to effectively handle this important issue.
