U.S. Grants 4 mln to Georgian Law Enforcement Agencies

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli and U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Miles signed an agreement on March 18, which provides USD 4 million of United States assistance to the Georgian law-enforcement agencies.

Through these funds, assistance will be provided to the Interior Ministry, the Prosecutor?s Office and the Justice Ministry, the U.S. Embassy to Georgia reported.

This U.S. assistance will be directed towards the establishment of an information management system and communications infrastructure to enable police officers do their jobs more effectively; assisting the law enforcement agencies to establish anticorruption initiatives; contributing a team of advisors to assist the Georgian government to implement the new Criminal Procedure Code; and providing equipment and training to meet internationally accepted standards.
