Russia to Train Georgian Officers

Georgian Defense Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said at a news briefing today that Georgian officers will undergo training in Russia.

“This agreement was achieved during my recent visit to the Russian Federation. The Georgian officers are already ready to leave for Russia and undergo short-term training there,” Gela Bezhuashvili said, adding that the sides also agreed on military and technical cooperation.

Commenting on the issue of Russian military bases deployed in Georgia, the Defense Minister said the issue of pullout has not been put on the agenda during this visit.

“We have agreed that the Russian bases deployed in Georgia will not interfere in the country’s internal affairs,” Gela Bezhuashvili added.

The Defense Minister visited Moscow on March 30-31 and held meetings with his Russian counterpart and other officials.
