Saakashvili Urges for High Voter Turnout

Presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili called the population today for a high voter turnout on January 4 presidential elections.

“I intend to honestly win the elections. I am not going to rig the elections as Shevardnadze [ex-President] did. If the population does not come to the polling stations, the elections will be disrupted and the country will face chaos and disorder,” Saakashvili said at a news briefing on December 30.

“Do not think that we have already won the elections, this is mistake,” he added.

Earlier today, the members of the National Movement also called for high voter turnout to avoid disruption of the presidential elections in the country.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission Zurab Tchiaberashvili also said appealing to the voters “holding of the elections absolutely depends on you [voters].”

At least 51% of voters should cast ballot in order to hold elections.
