President to Appoint Head of CEC before September 3

(Tbilisi, August 29, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The outgoing Central Election Commission (CEC) adopted a ruling today, according to which the President of Georgia should appoint new CEC Chairman before September 3.  

At the moment the representatives of the Council of Europe and OSCE, who arrived in Tbilisi on August 26, are jointly discussing a 25-member list of candidates to select several of them for further approval by the President.

OSCE Representative Liviu Bota said the selection process would complete by August 30-31.
