President Urges IMF to Avoid Strict Conclusions Over Georgia

(Tbilisi, June 30, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze hopes that the final results of evaluation of the IMF Mission, which pays two-week visit to Georgia, regarding the implementation of the fund?s recommendations by the Georgian government will not be too strict.

?We should have hardly passed difficult economic way, if not the recommendations and the assistance of the IMF. However, many recommendations still remain to be met by the executive and legislative authorities,? President Shevardnadze said in his Monday radio broadcast on June 30.

He is grateful for the assistance of the international financial organizations, including the World Bank, which funds various projects annually. The President said their assistance totaled USD 600 ml.
