Georgia, Russia to Discuss Railway Link via Abkhazia

(Tbilisi, June 19 2003, Civil Georgia) – Restoration of the railway communication between Sochi and Tbilisi will be discussed between the Georgian and Russian sides at the meeting of the Organization for Railways Cooperation which will be held in Tbilisi on June 19. 

According to the Russian media sources Russian First Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications and the leadership of the Georgian Transport Ministry will discuss the issue of restoration of the railway link between Russia and Georgia via breakaway Abkhazia, as it was agreed during the meeting of the two Presidents in Sochi on March 7.

The Russian Transport Ministry suggests assessing the condition of the Sochi-Tbilisi railway to define primary tasks, direction of work and volume of funding of the project.
