Prisoners End the Hunger Strike

(Tbilisi, May 7, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The prisoners ended the hunger strike in the prisons, as a special commission was established to re-investigate their cases.

With this purpose Justice Minister Roland Giligashvili and Prosecutor-General Nugzar Gabrichidze will visit Kutaisi and Geguti penitential camps today.

The commission includes the representatives of the General Procuracy, Deputy Prosecutor-General Giorgi Tvalavadze and Public Defender Nana Devdariani.

The commission will end its activities in one week.

More than 4500 prisoners went on hunger strike on April 30, demanding reinvestigation of their cases and release before the sentenced terms.
