Georgia to Play Against Russia Behind Closed Doors

(Tbilisi. April 16, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The UEFA ruled on April 15 that Georgia must play their next EURO 2004 qualifying match against Russian soccer team behind closed doors.

UEFA decided to close the stadium to spectators after Georgia’s March 29 match in Tbilisi was disrupted by fans throwing things at a number of Irish players. Midfielder Kevin Kilbane was struck on the arm by an open penknife.

The match against Russia was originally scheduled for last October, but was abandoned because of a power failure at the stadium.
