Hunger Strike at Russian Embassy

(Tbilisi, January 16, 2003. Civil Georgia) – IDPs from Abkhazia held a protest rally today at the Russian embassy in Tbilisi demanding closure of the railway connection between Russia and Abkhazia and to stop granting Russian citizenship to the population living in Abkhazia.

Five internal displaced persons from Abkhazia started in front of the embassy started hunger strike. Protesters say they will continue hunger strike until their demands are fulfilled. 

This is the second protest rally in front of the Russian embassy in January.

At the moment the protest rally is held by the IDPs at the Enguri river, administrative border between breakaway Abkhazia and the rest of the Georgia with the same demands.
