New Legislative Initiative to Limit Immunity of a Parliament Member
(Tbilisi, November 25, 2002. Civil Georgia) Member of the Georgian Parliament, representative of the Socialist Faction Zakaria Kutsnashvili suggested a new legislative initiative to the Parliament, which considers certain limitation of MP immunities.
At the November 25 press conference he said that his project considers limitation of immunities particularly with respect to the criminal law, while political rights remain unchanged.
Reasons of emergence of such initiative have become recent incidents of fist fighting in the Parliament. Nobody was held responsible for these incidents so far.
According to the existing laws, immunity of a Parliament’s member can be annulled only on ground of relevant request of the Prosecutor General to the Parliament.
