Progress in Georgian-Russian Framework Agreement Talks

(Tbilisi, March 29, Civil Georgia) – Georgian and Russian sides succeeded in talks on military and security issues of the framework agreement, Georgian Foreign Minister Irakli Menagarishvili stated on March 29.

Military and security issues are the most painful aspects of the agreement, Menagarishvili stated at the news briefing today.

Georgian experts returned from Moscow where they held negotiations on the issue with their Russian counterparts.

At the news briefing Menagarishvili said that he does not agree with some of the Russian politicians that the framework agreement can not be signed at the moment as the Georgian-Russian relations are deteriorating.

Georgia and Russia try to draft a new framework agreement as the first one, signed in 1994 was not ratified by the Russian Parliament.
