Paper Speculates on Plans to Reform Interior Ministry

The President?s administration is considering restructuring the government by seperating the security service from the Interior Ministry, the Georgian daily Rezonansi reported on November 16.


?Sources in the Parliament say that Vano Merabishvili [the Interior Minister] will become Minister of Security and Davit Kezerashvili [newly appointed Defense Minister] is being considered to become the Interior Minister,? the Rezonansi speculates.


According to the paper, MP Davit Kirkitadze, deputy leader of the parliamentary majority, may be nominated for the position of the head of the new structure that is expected to be set up in January, 2007 through the merger of the Financial Police, tax and customs services.


On November 13 PM Zurab Nogaideli denied that another cabinet reshuffle is planned.
