Former Secretary of State Baker to Visit Georgia

(Tbilisi, July 4, 2003, Civil Georgia) – President Bush dispatches former Secretary of State James Baker to Georgia, to discuss the country’s upcoming Parliamentary elections, scheduled for November 2. James Baker arrives in Tbilisi on July 5.

?The mission’s primary objective will be to discuss with Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze ways to advance political and economic reform in Georgia through free and fair Parliamentary elections this fall,? the White House said in a news release on July 3.

?The Baker mission reflects the United States’ readiness to work with all Georgian citizens who are committed to advancing reform and fighting corruption in pursuit of a democratic, prosperous and stable Georgia,?

Baker will also discuss US-Georgian cooperation on counterterrorism and other security matters.
