Man, Charged with Violence against Civic Activist during Queer Movie Premiere, Sent to Jail

On July 1, the Tbilisi City Court has sentenced a man, charged with violence against civic activist Ana Subeliani during the rally against the Georgian premiere of queer-themed “And Then We Danced” movie, to one year and six months in jail.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the man identified as “Sh.Sh.” threw a mobile phone into Subeliani’s face on grounds of intolerance against appearance and sexual orientation, causing her minor injuries.

The man was arrested on November 8, 2019, shortly after attacking Subeliani and was sentenced to pretrial detention.
