Defense Minister Meets ‘Group of Confidence’
Defense Minister, Davit Sikharulidze, met on February 10 with lawmakers from Group of Confidence, which is in charge of monitoring defense spending, including that related to top secret projects.
Sikharulidze told journalists after the meeting that sensitive military issues, including related with procurements, were discussed during the meeting.
MP Giorgi Targamadze, leader of the parliamentary minority and the Christian-Democratic Party, told journalists that among other things, Georgia’s air-defense and anti-tank capabilities were discuss – the two issues, which MP Targamadze said were “the most painful” during the August war.
Group of Confidence is chaired by MP Givi Targamadze of the ruling party, the chairman of parliamentary committee for defense and security; the group also includes MP Zaza Gelashvili of the ruling party and two lawmakers from the parliamentary minority – Giorgi Targamadze and Gia Tortladze. One seat in the group remains vacant after ex-MP Nika Rurua was appointed as Culture Minister in December.
