Sokhumi Hosts ‘Olympic Conference’

A conference – Olympic Corridor – is being held in Sokhumi on October 23, as part of the breakaway region?s efforts to incorporate itself into the preparations for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

The Abkhaz leader?s website said business leaders and officials from Krasnodar district and Moscow are participating in the three-day conference.

The Abkhaz leader, Sergey Bagapsh, said in early August that although no official proposal had been made by the Russian authorities about Abkhazia?s involvement in preparations for the Sochi Olympics, consultations were held with private Russian companies on using construction materials available in Abkhazia for building Olympic facilities.
