PM Hails ‘Economic Success’
With 10% growth and over 80 thousand new jobs created, 2006 was a success for Georgia?s economy, Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli told a government session on January 10.
?We managed to settle very difficult problems last year… In summer the twelve-month inflation rate was 14,5% and by the end of 2006 we managed to reduce this figure to 9%. Moreover, in 2006 economic growth reached 10% and we created 80-85 thousand jobs,? Nogaideli said.
In mid-December, the International Momentary Fund (IMF) projected 8% real GDP growth in 2006.
PM Nogaideli also said that due to the thorough reforms carried out by the government, Georgia was rated the top reformer globally in 2006 in the “Assessment of Doing Business Survey.?
?Georgia should remain the top reformer this year as well, and we should carry out far-reaching reforms,? the Prime Minister added.
