Russian Military Convoy Released after Resolving ‘Misunderstanding’

A convoy of four Russian military trucks and four armored vehicles was released by the Georgian border guard service after the Russian side submitted the necessary documentation authorizing them to transport arms.

The convoy, which was en route from the Akhalkalaki military base to Armenia, was shortly detained after Georgian border guards found five machine guns in the vehicles which were not listed in the documentation provided by the Russian side to Georgian border guards in advance.

Deputy Commander of the Headquarters of the Russian Troops in the Trans Caucasus, Col. Vladimir Kuparadze, said that the incident was just a misunderstanding which has already been resolved.

Meanwhile, a convoy of vehicles loaded with military equipment started to leave the Russian military base in Batumi, Adjara Autonomous Republic on July 28.

Russia will start the withdrawal of military hardware, including tanks, by ship from the base in Batumi in August.
