Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili and General Prosecutor Zurab Adeishvili said on July 27 that “huge amount” of “very dangerous substances” have been recovered by the FBI experts from the basement of home belonging to Vladimer Arutunian, who is suspected in tossing a hand-grenade during the U.S. President Bush’s public speech in Tbilisi on May 10.

“Experts from the FBI have been working here for several days, examining basement with modern technologies. Even the FBI experts were surprised with the huge amount of those substances which were found there,” Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili told reporters.

“We will be able to specify details about what kind of substances were recovered later and we will let you know about this. But we can say now that these are very dangerous substances, which can be used for terrorist acts,” General Prosecutor Zurab Adeishvili told reporters.

The both, Interior Minister and General Prosecutor, were speaking with reporters near the apartment in Vashli-Jvari, the suburb of Tbilisi, where Vladimer Arutunian lived. The suspect was formally charged with terrorism on July 26.

Adeishvili and Merabishvili thanked FBI experts for assistance and noted that investigation of this case was a genuine example of cooperation between the Georgian and American law enforcers.
