US Envoy Welcomes Georgia’s Accession to Anti-Terrorism Conventions

(Tbilisi, July 9, Civil Georgia) – At the conference held in Tbilisi on July 9, which aims at popularization of Georgia’s accession to the UN anti-terrorism conventions, Richard Miles, the US ambassador to Georgia stated that the process of the accession will be very important for Georgia as it will enable the country to be more actively involved in war against terror.

“It is very important that Georgian state supports fight against terrorism because there are some elements of international terrorism in Georgia,” Richard Miles stated at the conference today.

The conference is held in the frames of the project “Allying Against Terror”. The project is initiated by the UN Association of Georgia (UNAG), which undertook translation and expert analysis of the conventions. The project “Allying Against Terror” supported by the US government.

The US ambassador to Georgia Richard Miles, National Security Council Secretary of Georgia Tedo Japaridze and other officials attended the conference.  

There are 12 main UN conventions regarding prevention and suppression of the various forms of terrorism. Georgia has acceded to 6 of these international instruments.
