Adjarian Leader Confident on Russia’s Good Will to Solve Abkhazian Conflict

(Tbilisi, April 3, Civil Georgia) – Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze issued a statement on April 3 saying that the appointment of the Russian President’s personal representative for the Abkhazian conflict settlement “proves Russia’s support for Georgia’s territorial integrity”.

Head of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Aslan Abashidze, he is the Georgian President’s envoy for the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict settlement, states that the appointment will help to resolve the conflict.

Russian President appointed First Deputy Foreign Minister Valeri Loshchinin as his personal envoy for the conflict settlement on April 1.

Georgian Foreign Ministry, as well as unrecognized government of Abkhazia, has already expressed hope that the appointment would push forward peace process.

Adjarian leader’s statement says that decision on appointment of Russian President’s representative for the Abkhazian conflict was taken during his visit to Moscow in February.

The first talks on Abkhazian conflict with the participation of the Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister is anticipated for mid-April.

According to the Georgian Special Affairs Minister Malkhaz Kakabadze Russian President’s envoy for the Abkhazian conflict is to arrive in Georgia on April 11.
