The Resonance does not Expect Changes in the General Prosecutor’s Office

The Resonance

(Georgian Press Digest. Civil Georgia. 13.12.01) – Article named “What is Going on in the General Prosecutor’s Office” was published in the Resonance today. It concerns the changes occurred or intending to occur after appointing Nugzar Gabrichidze on the General Prosecutor’s post. The new General Prosecutor does not hurry to implement staff changes and is quite careful about it, the paper says.

According to the paper, the only important part of staff transformation, which was made was that Badri Bitsadze, former Military Prosecutor, was appointed on the position of the first deputy of General Prosecutor. “Even though Badri Bitsadze has not done anything important in the Military Procuracy he was liked because of criticizing the Interior and Defense Ministries now and then”, the paper says.

The Resonance states that promotion of Bitsadze was assessed as reanimation of the Citizens’ Union faction since he is husband of head of the parliament Nino Burjanadze and thus is considered as a CUG supporter.

According to the paper, post of Tbilisi Prosecutor will be taken by Ramaz Zhghenti who is father in law of reformers team member Mikheil Machavariani. “Ramaz Zhghenti used to be a high official in the General Prosecutor’s Office but it unknown whether he has done great services to his country or people”, the Resonance states.

It considers that appointing people close to the CUG party does not mean to care about its members. “These changes are more a result of personal sympathy and relations”.

It is obvious that the paper is not positive about the changes occurring in the Prosecutor’s Office. It even says: “Guarantee that the Procuracy will the improved in the hands of Gabrichidze is minimal”.
