Some Humanr Rights NGOs Demand withdrawal of MP Levan Pirveli’s Immunity
(Tbilisi. November 19. Civil Georgia) – The NGOs Liberty Institute, Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights, and Young Lawyers Association demand to withdraw immunity from criminal persecution for MP Levan Pirveli.
The Liberty Institute and the anticorruption commission member Givi Targamadze stated that Levan Pirveli shot at him from handgun in one of the restaurants of Tbilisi on November 18. No one was injured as a result. MP Levan Pirveli denies the fact.
Pirveli, formerly the leading official of one of the Georgian commercial banks was under criminal investigation several months ago for charges in homicide that resulted in a shootout at the restaurant. Pirveli was then acquitted of charges.
