FBI Agent Joins Investigation of Sanaia’s Murder Case
On July 31st, Representative of Ankara branch of Federal Bureau of Investigations of the United States of America met Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Kakha Targamadze, Prosecutor General Giorgi Meparishvili and investigation team.
Georgian law enforcers introduced to American colleague materials of the investigation. FBI agent considers, that the murder has been committed on very high professional level and therefore capturing of the killer might be very difficult.
Giorgi Sanaia’s funerals were held yesterday. Thousands of people have gathered in Sioni Cathedral to pay last respect to deceased leading journalist.
Murder of Giorgi Sanaia caused major protests in the population. Very next day to his death, the citizens started protest actions to condemn the system, under which neither famous journalist, nor a common citizen cannot be protected. It is a first accident in Georgia, when a journalist dies in a peaceful time (two journalist were killed during the civil war and 1998 Gali (Abkhazia) events).
