PM: ‘There is Certain Progress’ in Sex Tape Probe

PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili said “a certain progress” has been made in investigation into unlawful release of secretly recorded sex tapes, purportedly showing politicians.

“The Prosecutor’s Office is working very actively on this case and there is a certain progress in the investigation,” the PM said at a government session on Thursday morning without elaborating details.

“All the law enforcement agencies are involved in [the investigation]. I think that it is really a matter of honor to put an end to terrorizing the society with [such videos] once and for all. I very much hope that the investigation will succeed,” he added.

Several politicians and a journalist were threatened on March 14 with releasing secretly recorded videos of their private lives. The threat was made in a form of a released sex tape of unidentified individuals, posted anonymously on YouTube with the text on the video threatening three politicians, one of them opposition figure, and a TV journalist to quit their professional activities before March 31. The new video and the threat came few days after a separate sex tape, purportedly showing one of the opposition politicians, was anonymously posted on YouTube on March 11.
