Ex-Chief Prosecutor Becomes Head of Financial Police

Giorgi Badashvili, who served as chief prosecutor up until November 27 before being replaced by his deputy, was appointed as head of the Finance Ministry’s Investigative Service.

Investigative Service, also known informally as financial police, is in charge of tacking financial and economic crimes, as well as tax evasions. 

Badashvili, 34, who served in the Finance Ministry’s Investigative Service in 2006-2013, replaced Leri Barnabishvili. The Finance Ministry said that the latter will be appointed as Deputy Finance Minister.
