President: ‘Those Speaking About Revolution are Out of Touch With Reality’

President Giorgi Margvelashvili said that “epoch of revolutionary scenarios” is over in Georgia and those who try to go down this path “are completely out of touch with the political reality.”

Margvelashvili made a televised statement on October 30 after two wiretapped recordings were leaked onto internet on October 29 in which  Georgia’s ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is now governor of Ukraine’s Odessa region, discusses “defending” Rustavi 2 TV through erecting barricades, calls for “going through revolutionary scenario” and speaks about the need for “physical confrontation”.

“I want to remind everyone and stress that change of government through elections is an achievement of the Georgian people and this course is irreversible,” President Margvelashvili said.

“The epoch of revolutionary scenarios is over in Georgia, and those who plan processes through this path are completely out of touch with society and political reality,” he said.

Referring to his predecessor Mikheil Saakashvili, who is now governor of Odessa region in Ukraine, President Margvelashvili said: “I have stated it multiple times previously and regrettably I have to repeat it again that it is inadmissible for a high-ranking official of a foreign country to interfere in internal political affairs of another country and to plan any kind of unrests.”

“I remind politicians that a human being, life and health, are supreme values and it is inadmissible to play with it,” the Georgian President said.

“I call on citizens for calm, to remain within the constitutional framework, and not to yield to adventures. I reaffirm that I remain a guarantor of constitutional order, human rights and media independence,” Margvelashvili said.
