Blast at Apartment Building in Tbilisi Suburb Kills 5

Five people were killed, and at least seven others injured in a blast that is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak in a 9-storey apartment building in the Tbilisi suburb of Gldani on July 14.
Two women remain in grave condition in hospital.

39 families have been evacuated from the most damaged part of the building; they had to spend the night in hotels, according to the Tbilisi City Hall officials.

No precise cause of the explosion has yet been identified, but officials suspect a gas leak.
Nino Turmanidze, a special administrator of gas distributor company in the capital city, KazTransGaz Tbilisi, said that if the gas was the cause of the blast, it was most likely because of improperly installed gas water heater in one of the flats.
