Georgian FM Visits Argentina, Uruguay, Chile
Georgian Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili started a three-nation South American tour from June 22 to 26 with a trip to Argentina.
The tour, the first of this kind to this region by a Georgian foreign minister, also includes visits to Uruguay and Chile and aims at “increasing awareness” about Georgia and boosting political and economic ties with the South American countries.
During the visit the Georgian Foreign Minister will sign bilateral agreements on visa waivers with the three countries.
Unlike Chile and Uruguay, Georgia already has unilateral visa waiver for citizens of Argentina; it is included in the list of those over 100 countries and territories, whose citizens can stay in Georgia without a visa for a year.
In Buenos Aires, Beruchashvili will meet her Argentine counterpart Héctor Timerman and Vice President Amado Boudou.
On June 24 she will head to Uruguay, where she will meet Vice President Raúl Sendic and Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa.
The Georgian Foreign Minister will be visiting Chile on the third and final leg of her tour, where Beruchashvili will meet her Chilean counterpart Heraldo Muñoz.
“Latin America and the Caribbean represent one of the priority areas of Georgia’s foreign policy,” David Kereselidze, the Georgian foreign ministry spokesman, said on June 22.
